After an early breakfast where we bid a fond farewell to Chuck and Jacki, we rode to South Beach in Miami. It was a planned short day to help get us closer to getting out of the area on Tuesday as we head for the Keys. One really smart strategy was to have the 3 of us ride through the town on Sunday morning and therefore through little traffic (unlike the 2011 ride when this area was approached at 6:00 PM on a Friday). We spent the day waiting for our hotel room by having a leisurely lunch and by taking a short ride among the visitors also in the area. After our check in and showers, we had a chance to walk the mile to the laundromat and get washing done. We also got more photos downloaded.
Many of the people here are “nearly nekkid” and the music is loud. There are LOTS of people everywhere with the holiday weekend. We are hoping to do some sightseeing tomorrow, eat at a Cuban cafeteria, and get our bus and train rservations secured for June 1 and 2. It will be an early bedtime Monday with the plan to embark on Tuesday at 6:30 AM for our 70 mile trip to Key Largo.
The Penguin hotel is on a scale of 1 to 10: an 8 on interesting, a 10 on kitschy, and a 2 on quality. Not a bad place if you like interesting. Sometime ask Bob about the faucet falling off the wall (yes, it’s true) shortly after the toilet paper holder did. Quite the adventure today!
